Keep your eyes on the Word of God.

“Come now let us reason together…” Isaiah 1:18

I saw it, and heard it, just as everyone else had in that room. He was tearing a newspaper ripping it from top to bottom folding it and tearing it again. As he did this he told us that he was not tearing it, neither was the sound we heard that of paper being ripped. Yet seconds later, he held up a whole newspaper. It was a trick, an illusion; after all, it was a magic show.

What is true – what can we depend on if we cannot trust our own senses? Are we to trust anyone who tells us to believe them when reason tells us otherwise? At the end of the show, we clapped and our applause signified we did not seem to mind being the objects of a trick (he really did tear that paper).

Our Lord wants us to use our reasoning ability; He bids us, “Come now let us reason together…” We cannot always rely on our senses to tell us what is true since they can be fed the wrong information. We can, however, without reservation, trust our Lord God, that He be found true, though every man be found a liar.

I checked the internet for the “tearing the paper” trick and I saw how it was done. Our Lord God does not do tricks. He did not make our sins disappear with just a few well-chosen words. No. They were not washed away with magical soap, but by the shed blood of our Lord Jesus Christ on the cross. But He gives us the opportunity to reason and know.

Pray our Lord will guide and direct you. Allow His truth to lead and guide you into all truth. Don’t allow the illusionists of this world to take your eyes off the Word of God.
